Etiquette Etiquette Etiquette
At our January 5th General Meeting, Ellen, Alexis and Beth Zanis helped us all with the sometimes confusing world of etiquette and manners.  So that they remember this note on the web site, THANK YOU!  (You'd have to be there...)
Snowball's NBF!!
A BIG Snowball Thank-you goes out to our NBF (New Best Friend) Lisa Dent from WUSN US99 radio!  Lisa was our special guest at our April 13th meeting and told us her story of her personal and public battle against cancer.  After Lisa left, Mama T talked about the Snowball Magic team that will participate in this year's Relay for Life.  Nearly every teen at the meeting signed up and committed to attend the Relay!

Lisa had great things to say about Snowball on the radio the next day to about a half-million listeners.  After speaking with her station manager, she contacted us and donated something very special that we'll be using to raise money for Relay for Life.  More info to follow!

Drug Court and Turn-Around
Mark your calendars for Sunday, October 29 at 5 PM for the return engagement of GFRVOS performance of "Turn-Around" at the Kane County Drug Rehabilitation Court Graduation Ceremony at Geneva High School.
Shop for the Troops a Huge Success!
Thanks to everyone who braved the weather and came out to support our "Shop for the Troops" event on October 26th the Batavia Jewel.  We collected 13 grocery carts overflowing with supplies needed for our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan!  We had support from Ramblin' Ray Stevens from US99, the Waubonsee Community College Criminal Justice Club, Operation Support Our Troops Illinois and Grant's TV and Appliance.  The  Jewel customers and employees - especially our very own Cooki Bernardi - helped make the night bigger and better than we ever imagined.  Check out the pictures in the Photo Album!

Nick Fiorani, the manager of Grant's and Ray Stevens decided to show their appreciation to the students who volunteered their time for such a worthy cause, so they raffled off a 27-inch LCD Television.  The TV was valued at $800!!  And the winner was...Sarah Rodenkirch from Geneva High School!  Congratulations Sarah and thank you again to everyone who helped bring a little piece of home to our troops overseas.
Turn Around and Around
Congratulations to the travelling troupe from GFRVOS and the excellent performances of Turn Around at the Aurora Law Enforcement Awards Banquet and the Kane County Drug Court Graduation!  The audiences included the Mayor of Aurora, Chief Judge Donald Hudson, Drug Court Judge Thomas Mueller,  Illinois State Representative Tim Schmitz and many others.  The combined audiences were around 300+ people.  Everyone involved should be proud of their involvement and for the message that we sent out to the community.  Check out the pictures in the Photo Album!
Life Is a Highway!
Welcome home to everyone who attended the 2006 Fall Event!  By all accounts it was a GFRVOS classic.  Our guest speakers Dan Davis and Vince Bellafiore helped make the weekend memorable, and Teen Directors Alex White and Emily Alford made it truly "magical"!!
Shop for the Troops - Follow up
Some of our pictures from the Shop for the Troops event have found their way to the US99 web site.  Click here, and then click on the picture of Ray Stevens and the volunteers from Operation Support Our Troops Illinois.

OSOTIL reports that the supplies and letters from GFRVOS were being packed on November 4th and should be shipped on November 8th to Iraq and Afghanistan!  They also told us that we collected over 2100 pounds of supplies.  Hoo-rah!!  Awesome job!!

If you know of anyone serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and would like OSOTIL to send a package to them, send the person's name and address to OSOTIL through their web site at www.osotil.org   .

GFRVOS Goes Long Distance to Make a Difference!
Just as we were getting ready to watch Polar Express at our December 7th meeting, the phone rang.  It was Captain Erin Weaver, calling from Afghanistan to thank Operation Snowball for sending him a package of much needed supplies! Captain Weaver chatted with us on a speaker phone for quite a while, describing the conditions in Afghanistan (two feet of snow and 6 degrees) and telling us how excited he is about the pending birth of his son in January.  He went to Iraq in the first Gulf War, then was in Iraq again in 2003, and is now stationed in Ghanzi, Afghanistan until next August.  If you would like to send him a card or something perhaps a bit larger, his address is:
